Since 1990, the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI), comprised of leading companies, has created tools and provided strategies to help business foster global environmental, health and safety excellence (EHS), economic success and corporate citizenship. GEMI provides a forum for corporate environmental sustainability leaders throughout the world to work together, learn from each other through the activities of work groups, benchmark with peers and create tools that can be used by GEMI members and others. Through the collaborative efforts of its members, GEMI also promotes a worldwide business ethic for EHS management and sustainable development through example and leadership. GEMI is unique in that it provides a way for companies in a wide range of industrial sectors to work together in a cost effective manner to address strategic and tactical issues impacting progressive corporate EHS and sustainability activities in their companies around the world.

The International Private Water Association (IPWA) was formed in 1999 to address the changing dynamics that are taking place in individual countries around the world within the context of the evolving water/wastewater infrastructure project and service arena. The Association serves as a conduit between the public and private sector players - facilitating effective timely dialogues that highlight the critical need for speed, transparency and cost-effectiveness in the development/operations of global water and wastewater projects, and the practical means for achieving those elements in projects. More importantly, IPWA is uniquely recognized as one of the few independent organizations that address, as a central part of its mission, the potential expanding role of the private sector as a viable partner to governments and parastatals within the global water/wastewater project and service arena.
IPWA provides ministerial dialogues, workshops, networking receptions, information resources, financial tool options, and model project framework options.
IPWA welcomes members representing the full spectrum of parties involved in the planning, investing, financing, regulating and managing of water/wastewater projects. Members include project developers, construction and engineering firms, equipment suppliers, professional service providers, multilateral funding agencies, water utilities and government ministries, related associations, financial institutions and others interested in the development of public-private partnerships within the water/wastewater project sector.
